District Attorneys seek criminal contempt charges for Brian Steel

WEB Attorney Brian Steel was taken into custody on Monday afternoon for alleged contempt of court according to WSB. The Fulton County District Attorneys office claimed that Steel, a prominent Atlanta-area criminal defense attorney, refused to disclose a source of a rap lyric that was cited in court. Steel has represented rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, since his arrest on RICO charges in May 2022. Steel has been a vocal critic of the prosecution's case, and has accused the District Attorney's office of misconduct. The contempt charges stem from an incident that occurred during a hearing on Monday, June 10, 2024. Prosecutors asked Steel to disclose the source of a rap lyric that was cited in court. Steel refused, citing attorney-client privilege. The judge ordered Steel to disclose the source, but Steel again refused. The judge then held Steel in contempt of court and ordered him to be taken into custody.

Steel's arrest has been met with mixed reactions. Some legal experts have praised Steel for his willingness to stand up for his client's rights, while others have criticized him for his defiance of the court. It is unclear at this time what impact Steel's arrest will have on Young Thug's case.
