Celtics Acquire Kristaps Porzingis in Three-Team Deal

Porzingis Set to Join Boston's Frontcourt

The Boston Celtics have acquired centerforward Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a three-team deal that sends a 2023 Memphis first-round pick to the Wizards. The Celtics are planning to give Porzingis some time off before re-evaluating his status, coach Joe Mazzulla said Wednesday morning.

Porzingis agreed to opt into his deal, which will pay him $36 million this season. He is expected to join the Celtics for training camp in September.

The 7-foot-3 Porzingis will provide the Celtics with a much-needed presence in the frontcourt. He is a skilled scorer and rebounder who can also shoot the three-pointer.

Porziņģis made his Celtics debut on October 25, 2023, in a return to Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. He helped Boston to a 108-104 victory with a 22-point, 10-rebound performance.

The addition of Porzingis gives the Celtics one of the most talented frontcourts in the NBA. He will join forces with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Robert Williams III to form a formidable group that will be difficult for opponents to stop.

The Celtics are hoping that Porzingis can help them make a deep playoff run this season. They have not won an NBA championship since 2008, and they are eager to reclaim their place as one of the league's top teams.
